MUST HAVES FOR MOM PHOTOGRAPHERS

I often get asked what type of camera I have or what my favourite lens is. I thought I would put together a quick ‘Must haves for mom photographers’ guide with all of my favourite cameras and camera accessories that I use and love.

Whether you’re a photographer, a momtographer or an avid iPhone camera extraordinaire this guide will help you take your photography to the next level!

must haves for mom photographers

  1. Canon Rebel T4i
  2. Toshiba Flash Air Wireless 16 GB SD Memory Card
  3. Canon 50mm f/1.4 Lens
  4. b.Still Leather Camera Shoulder Strap
  5. Joby Gorillapod Flexible Tripod
  6. Neewer 43-inch Collapsible Multi-Disc Light Reflector
  7. Toploading DSLR Camera Case from Lowerpro
  8. Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera

Canon Rebel T4i

I love my Canon Rebel! My first DSLR was a Canon xsi and I had it for almost five years. I upgraded a few years ago (thanks to my husband for the amazing birthday gift) to the T4i.  I love the touch and fold out screen. It’s a great entry level DSLR that can grow with your photography skills.

Toshiba Flash Air Wireless 16 GB SD Memory Card

This is a game changer, Moms. If your camera doesn’t have wifi you’re gong to love this wireless sd card! Gone are the days where you have to upload your pictures to your computer and then transfer them to your phone. Now, with a quick click on your phone you can instantly edit and post your photos on your favourite social media channels. Best. Thing. Ever.

Canon 50mm f/1.4 Lens

If you love photos that have a blurry background you’re going to love this lens! This is my go to lens. I take ninety percent of my photos with this lens. I can’t remember the last time I took it off my camera! It’s great for taking photos of your kids, pets or subjects where they stand out in front and have a great blurred background.

b.Still Leather Camera Shoulder Strap

Everyone needs a camera strap, especially moms who are always multitasking and needs free hands while taking care of little ones. This is one of my favourites. It’s made of gorgeous leather and I can’t help but love the name. Reminds me of one of my favourite passages, Psalm 46:10.

Joby Gorillapod Flexible Tripod

I always tell other moms to take more pictures of themselves with their little ones. Aside from the good ‘ol selfie I highly recommend a flexible tripod. It can sit on a nearby table, be wrapped around a door handle (been there and done that) and you can adjust the height with the flexible arms. It’s small and can fit in your purse which is perfect!

Neewer 43-inch Collapsible Multi-Disc Light Reflector

I love taking photos with natural light. When I discovered this light reflector I did a little happy dance! Gone are the shadows on one side of my kids face or flat lays for Instagram. Plus it’s five in one! It’s portable and folds right up into a cute little carrying case. Perfect for moms on the go.

Toploading DSLR Camera Case from Lowerpro

I love this camera bag. I bought it for my first Canon Rebel xsi and I’ve used it for every camera since! It’s small but holds a lot and protects my camera from bumps and unexpected rain.

Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera

Meet the newest addition to our family. She’s small, mighty and can capture pictures of my toddlers while they’re on the move. She had me at hello. She also creates the blurry backgrounds thanks to the 50mm f/1.4 lens. I’ve always been a Canon lover but I started seeing this camera pop up on Instagram being used be some of my favourite mamas and I had to check it out. I was sold right away. I have quick access to functions to shoot like a pro, including full manual control and 7 customizable buttons. One setting is called superior auto, imagine auto kicked up a notch. If you’re not ready to go full DSLR but you want to take pictures like a pro this camera is for you. Did I mention it costs half the price of a regular DSLR, too? Check it out, you’re going to love it.

That’s it friends! Those are my must haves for any mom photographers or as I like to call them “momtographers”.

What is your favourite must have for photography? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Sincerely Nikki, xo
